Insect Science Holdings® buys into Green Trading™, expanding its fruit fly portfolio
Published on 10 December 2025

Insect Science Holdings® has acquired shares in Green Trading™, a South African manufacturer of fruit fly monitoring and control devices. Finalised in July 2025, the partnership expands Insect Science’s biological pest management portfolio through a new dual distribution arrangement. This allows Insect Science® to distribute the control products of Green Trading™, including M3? and Buzzcap™, complementing its existing range of Responsible Pest Management™ solutions.

The portfolio includes the well-established M3? bait station, which attracts egg-laying female fruit flies such as Anastrepha, Dacus, Bactrocera and Ceratitis species, helping suppress pest populations before harvest. Also featured are Questlure and Capilure attractants, used in the Sensus Trap, long trusted for reliable monitoring. In addition, Insect Science® will distribute Buzzcap™ and Ceralure, a trap-and-lure system for controlling house flies in poultry houses, stables, and livestock facilities. Its odour-locking design provides lasting attraction and efficiency in commercial environments. A highlight of the agreement is a new attract-and-kill (AK) device that combines Green Trading’s™ bait station design with Insect Science’s Last Call® pheromone technology.

Using both protein bait and pheromones, it attracts male and female pests to a contact insecticide surface. Initially designed for Ceratitis species, the technology is being adapted for Anastrepha, Bactrocera, Dacus and even some sucking insects. Unlike conventional pesticide sprays, these innovations avoid direct crop application, making them safer for workers, beneficial insects, and the environment.

While Green Trading™ will continue operating as an independent manufacturer, Insect Science® will integrate its technologies into its product portfolio. Insect Science’s semiochemical lure systems target males and Green Trading’s protein-based stations target females. These complementary strengths provide a more comprehensive approach to fruit fly management. “This acquisition strengthens our biological product range and gives us a balanced approach to managing fruit flies,” said Gerhard Booysen, Group CEO of Insect Science Holdings®, “And combining Green Trading’s formulations with our semiochemical expertise allows us to deliver real value for growers.”

Renier Kriek of Green Trading™ added, “Partnering with Insect Science® allows us to focus on research and development while improving manufacturing and quality control. Together, we can keep developing products that make a real difference for farmers.” This collaboration advances the Insect Science® mission to provide sustainable, science-based pest control solutions and reinforces its leadership in Responsible Pest Management™? across Africa and internationally, as Insect
Science Holdings® continues to pursue innovative and strategically aligned partners in the global insect pest management industry.
